We are Suns of the Tundra. Welcome to our web site. We are busy working on our 5th release (working title: 'South') which should be ready in all its double-album glory before the end of the year. If you haven't dropped in on us for a while, you might have missed two rarities CDs that we released during 2009:

Firstly, there is the new EP Illuminate (SM004). It contains 3 tracks: Illuminate, Not Everything is Significant and Made of Stone. You can get your hands on this limited edition signed 3-track CD – each one is hand-burned by our assistant Dolores while she sits in the office eating donuts! Alternatively, download this for $2.99 at http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/SunsoftheTundra

Also released in 2009 was the new compilation album Almost the Right People (SM004) (note that the EP tracks Illuminate and Not Everything is Significant are also included on this album). Other group and solo compositions by members of Suns of the Tundra feature as part of this retrospective 15-track CD spanning 1996-2009.

All the music included on Almost the Right People was written for, or featured in, live theatre shows by UK playwright Ben Moor, several of which have subsequently been broadcast by the BBC. Now, these tracks – spanning more than 10 years - are finally available on a single disc. And Suns of the Tundra will be performing with Ben once again at the UK's Green Man festival in August 2010.

You may download the EP track Made of Stone entirely for free here  (Made of Stone is a previously unreleased song by Peach, the 1990s band from which Suns of the Tundra is partly-evolved. This new version was recorded in 2006)

More details about the new recordings (press release, July 2009)

Anyone who follows the fortunes of Suns of the Tundra for long will know that when they say they will deliver something in a couple of months' time, then you need to multiply that by three to get a realistic delivery time. So finally the new product is ready, a year later than promised. Of course. This is SOTT we are talking about, after all

But now at last there are 2 exciting new items you can get your hands on, care of the band’s online shop.

ALMOST THE RIGHT PEOPLE (SM005)
This mid-priced compilation album marks thirteen years of collaboration between members of SOTT and the well-known UK writer Ben Moor. Half the tracks are performed by SOTT, the other half by Grand Western (a more pop, less rock band that Simon Oakes and Rob Havis formed for a while in-between Peach and Suns of the Tundra, along with singer Kirsten France - if you like Sigur Ros, you might dig some of their songs). Of the 8 SOTT tracks that feature on the album, there are 2 new tracks (Illuminate, Not Everything is Significant) that feature the whole band along with 3 new ambient guitar tracks, one of which has a distinctly David Lynch feel about it (or so we are told).  You can check out extra audio extracts and find out more at Ben Moor's website www.spesh.com/ben

ILLUMINATE (SM004)
You can also get hold of a limited edition & signed 3-track hand-pressed CD also featuring the 2 new tracks Illuminate and Not Everything - plus a real added rarity, SOTT covering the old (unreleased) Peach track "Made of Stone" from 1994. Simon and Rob always like jamming this one when they get together with Andy P - and somehow it ended up being laid down to tape during the recording sessions for Tunguska in 2006. You don’t have to spend money to get to hear this though – it’s intended primarily as a free gift for the fans. Listen to it or download it at either the band website or MySpace site - http://www.myspace.com/sunsofthetundraband

And what's that you say? You want to get into the 21st Century and start downloading our music instead of buying CDs? OK, ok, we'll look into it...... watch this space. For a little while longer…

The release of SM005 accompanies the publications of a new volume of Moor's plays by Portobello Books called More Trees to Climb.  Suns of the Tundra perform with Moor at the UK Latitude Festival, July 16-19 2009. And you can buy the book at Moor’s website www.spesh.com/ben
